Dolores Kew - Karel Murray's mother
Dolores Kew

Book reflects on ‘Women, Work, What Matters’
By JOHN SKIPPER

MASON CITY — Karel Murray remembers a conversation she had with her mother, Dolores Kew, shortly before her mother’s death.

As Dolores sat rocking in a lawn chair in Mason City, she noticed two squirrels chasing each other across the grass.

“People are like that,” she said. “They race after whatever they feel is important and don’t ever seem to stop to take a breath. I miss that.”

Murray, who grew up in Mason City, said her mother shared many truths with her in her final days. “I didn’t agree with all of them but I listened,” she said. Dolores Kew died in 2007.

Kew’s reflective views on life gave Murray inspiration for her latest book, “Hitting Our Stride: Women, Work and What Matters.” read more»

"I think people should know about Karel because she is a phenomenal speaker! She has a talent at engaging her audience and making virtually any topic she is teaching dynamic and energized. She uses humor and fun in her presentation which really grasps people and pulls them into the topic. I recommend her because I have seen her speak several times and have never walked away from a session of hers unhappy. I've attended topics that at first I had no real connection to the subject and left wanting to go out and learn more about it to apply it to what I do; now that's what makes a great instructor!"
